The following list contains 10 word parts that indicate something about time and examples of how they are used. A word list follows; then, practice exercises allow you to define words that contain these prefixes, combine word parts, and use words correctly.

You can also rely on your own word knowledge and a dictionary, if you wish. Included in each word's listing is the pronunciation, part of speech, and definition. 1. abbreviation (o bre ve a' shan) n: shortened form of a word or phrase: Mr. (Mister).

2. anniversary (an a vur' sor e) n: 1. the date on which an event occurred in a previous year. 2. the celebration of the event: a wedding anniversary party.

3. annual (an' yoo al) adj: 1. happening or recurring every year. 2. yearly. n: 3. a plant that lives for only one year
